On Saturday August 27, BC NET/CANARIE will be performing network maintenance between 12pm-8pm ET, 9am-5pm PT. During this period there will be several hours with no access to the West Cloud. Details on the schedule have not been released yet and we will update this page when we get more details.

During this period your instances (VM's) will continue to run, but you will not be able to access them. Access to the OpenStack Dashboard and API will also be affected. If you have any concerns about this, please contact cloud@computecanada.ca.

-The upgrade of the East cloud is now completed. You can now start VMs from the snapshots we took. They can be found in the "Image > shared with me" tab.

-If you were using a volume for your instance, you can launch a new VM from the same volume.
-If you are using a command line client, you will need to update your openrc file to add the Domain for LDAP authentication. You can download the new openrc file from the dashboard (just make sure you pick the V3).
-We would also recommend upgrading your command line client at the same time.
-Please also add these two lines to your openrc file since they are currently missing from the autogenerated ones:

-La mise à jour du East cloud est maintenant complétée. Vous pouvez redémarrer vos VMs à partir des snapshots créés par nous. Les snapshots sont disponibles dans la section "Image > shared with me".
-Si vous utilisiez un volume pour votre instance vous pouvez relancer votre VM à partir du même volume.
-Si vous utilisez un client en ligne de commande vous devrez récupérer une nouvelle version de votre fichier openrc qui prendra en compte les Domaines pour l'authentification LDAP. Vous pouvez récupérer votre fichier openrc via l'interface web (veuillez prendre le V3).
-Nous vous recommandons également de mettre à jour votre client en ligne de commande en même temps.
-Veuillez également ajouter les deux lignes suivantes à votre fichier openrc puisqu'elles sont présentement absentes de la version autogénérée.

-Hello,
-We need to upgrade the East Cloud. In order to do so, we will need to terminate your instances. While this is not desirable, it is a necessary step in order to perform the upgrade, as we are changing how the system is installed and managed. The change will allow us to upgrade the installation easily in the future, meaning that we will be able to perform major upgrades without having to terminate your instances.
-We will however keep all of the images, snapshots, volumes, networks and routers.
-What we intend to do is:
-- We will shutdown your instances
-- We will create a snapshot of your root disks
-- We will then terminate (delete) your instances
-- We will upgrade the East-Cloud
-- We will send you an email once the upgrade is done
-- You will then be able to start a new instance from the previously taken snapshot.
-* Note that the data on the second ephemeral disk (/mnt) will not be preserved by the snapshot.
-Since there is no way for us to start a VM with your personal ssh keys, this action will need to be done by you.
-Using ephemeral VMs is good if you do not mind losing the data you have on it. For a persistent service, you should really boot from a volume.
-If you have VMs running that you are not using, please terminate them as it will help us shorten the downtime for the upgrade.
-The East Cloud will not be available during the upgrade process.

-Nous devons mettre à jour le “East Cloud”. Pour ce, nous aurons besoin de détruire vos instances. Bien que ça ne soit pas désirable, il s'agit d'une étape nécessaire puisque nous changeons de méthode d'installation et de gestion du système. Ce changement nous permettra de mettre le système facilement à jour, à l'avenir nous serons capables d'effectuer les mises à jour majeures sans détruire les instances en cours d’exécution.
-Nous allons par contre conserver toutes les images, les instantanés (snapshots), les volumes, les réseaux et les routeurs.
-Voici notre plan pour la mise à jour:
-- Nous allons fermer vos instances
-- Nous allons créer un instantané (snapshot) de vos disques root
-- Nous allons détruire (effacer) vos instances
-- Nous allons mettre à jour le “East Cloud”
-- Nous allons vous envoyer un courriel une fois la mise à jour terminée
-- Vous pourrez démarrer une nouvelle instance depuis l’instané que nous aurons créé pour vous.
-* Notez que les données qui se trouvent sur le second disque éphémère (/mnt) ne seront pas préservées.
-Puisqu’il nous est impossible de démarrer des instances avec votre clef SSH, cette action devra être faite par vous.
-L’utilisation d'instance éphémère est correcte si vous n’avez pas besoin de conserver vos données ou si pouvez les regénérer. Pour les services permanents vous devriez démarrer votre instance depuis un volume.
-Si vous avez des instances que vous n’utilisez plus, s.v.p. effacez les afin de nous aider à avoir une interruption de service plus courte.
-Durant la mise à jour le “East Cloud” ne sera pas disponible.
