CEDAR: Endpoint computecanada#cedar-dtn (version 4) will be decommissioned and endpoint computecanada#cedar-globus (version 5) will be used instead

== Details ==

Digital Research Alliance of Canada will be decommissioning several Globus end-points of version 4, due to Globus version 4 end of life on December 18, 2023. Majority of the work required will be non-disruptive, however, during a final stage of '''migration''', all transfers to the server being migrated will be canceled. It is expected that most of the shared endpoints of Globus version 4 will be migrated automatically, however it is strongly recommended for users to verify their shared endpoints after migration.
What you need to do depends on where your shared collection (formerly shared endpoint) is located.
NO DATA WILL BE MOVED, MIGRATED OR DELETED during migration from version 4 to version 5 or while decommissioning version 4 endpoints.

== Cedar ==
Globus version 4 endpoint computecanada#cedar-dtn will NOT be migrated. The plan is to remove it and use existing Globus version 5 endpoint computecanada#cedar-globus instead. All users need to re-create their shared endpoints from computecanada#cedar-dtn as guest collections on computecanada#cedar-globus BEFORE December 15, 2023 because on December 18, 2023 computecanada#cedar-dtn will not be available. Globus instructions for sharing data in version 5 is available here https://docs.globus.org/how-to/share-files/
At Cedar, the endpoint
computecanada#cedar-dtn
used version 4 of Globus and has been discontinued on December 15, 2023. Before this date, users needed to recreate their shared collections using the endpoint
computecanada#cedar-globus
, which uses version 5.

Migration will be conducted during November 28-29 maintenance window.
At Béluga, the existing Globus v4 endpoint has been upgraded to Globus v5 during the scheduled maintenance on November 28, 2023. However, if a collection was created using a third party identity provider, it must be re-created after November 28, 2023.

GCS Version 4 will be discontinued on December 18, 2023. If you have not yet migrated your Globus Connect Server v4 deployment or updated your applications to support Globus Connect Server v5, we urge you to do so now.

The original announcement was made in July 2023: https://www.globus.org/blog/globus-connect-server-v4-will-be-deprecated-july-31-2023.

What do I need to do?[edit]

What you need to do depends on where your shared collection (formerly shared endpoint) is located.

Cedar[edit]

At Cedar, the endpoint computecanada#cedar-dtn used version 4 of Globus and has been discontinued on December 15, 2023. Before this date, users needed to recreate their shared collections using the endpoint computecanada#cedar-globus, which uses version 5.

Béluga[edit]

At Béluga, the existing Globus v4 endpoint has been upgraded to Globus v5 during the scheduled maintenance on November 28, 2023. Most shared collections, which used the Compute Canada identity provider, has been migrated automatically. However, if a collection was created using a third party identity provider, it must be re-created after November 28, 2023.

Graham and Narval[edit]

Their respective endpoints already use version 5. No further action is required.

Niagara[edit]

The Niagara endpoint already uses version 5. No action is required from users since Globus shared collections are not allowed at Niagara.

How to share data with Globus version 5[edit]

Instructions for sharing data using Globus version 5 can be found here.

Timeline[edit]

 • November 28, 2023: End of GCSv4 at Béluga
 • December 15, 2023: End of GCSv4 at Cedar
 • December 18, 2023: End of GCSv4 everywhere
